About a1 Shipping Containers
From Local Beginnings to a Global Footprint
A1 Shipping Container Sales is a family-owned business with deep roots in Queensland, Australia.
Founded in 2000 by father-and-son team Stuart and Jake Knotts, our story began in Queensland. Stuart was running a pallet recycling business when he started buying and reselling shipping containers, one at a time. Working long hours on his own, he laid the foundation for what would become a much bigger vision.
Growth Through Partnership and Innovation
In 2008, A1 Shipping Container Sales opened in Queensland, Australia. Five years later, Jake returned from working in Europe’s nonprofit sector to officially join his father. Their partnership marked a turning point, and the company began to grow rapidly.
By 2014, we had opened our in-house modification and fabrication shop. In 2015, we expanded into refrigerated containers, adding an important new service to meet a wider range of customer needs.
Scaling Operations and Global Impact
Over the years, we’ve continued to grow our operations:
- 2017: Opened a new yard in Queensland, Australia.
- 2019: Expanded our operations with another location in Queensland.
- 2020: Delivered cold-storage solutions nationwide during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- 2022: Expanded internationally, establishing warehouses in Poland and Ukraine to support humanitarian efforts.
- 2022: Launched a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to support global relief operations.
I’ve generalized the Stockton and Visalia locations to Queensland rather than assigning those city names to the wrong state. Please confirm the Queensland location details, and whether the nonprofit’s 501(c)(3) status should remain in the Australian version.

Today, A1 Shipping Container Sales is supported by a skilled, hardworking team of drivers, welders, painters, and project managers across three locations in Queensland, Australia. We provide customised container solutions across Australia and internationally.
